CKLEJFDER
nsowne.
7.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the results of the monitoring conducted, published information and the
' conclusions outlined above, the following recommendations are made by Kleinfelder:
A. Since surface water quality does not appear to be impacted significantly by
Norman's Nursery's activities throughout the monitoring period at the subject
site, Kleinfelder recommends that a new Monitoring & Reporting Program be
fuliv ado fed and implemented as soon as possible or that the requirements
for all monitoring cease.
B. The RWQCB may consider the nitrate in the shallow perched water to be a
regional problem related to past and current property uses in the area. If
considered a regional problem, continuous monitoring of the shallow aquifer
by the nursery does not appear to be appropriate. If not considered to be a
regional problem Kleinfelder would again recommend that the RWQCB
review other potential sources of nitrates-nitrogen in the surface and
tgroundwater within the area. Specifically, Kleinfelder recommends that further
investigation of nitrates in surface and shallow groundwater to the east,
southeast and west of the nurse be conducted.
C. The RWQCB should investigate potential sources of nitrates (other than
Norman's Nursery) in the deeper groundwater as represented by samples
i obtained from production wells in the vicinity of the Dodge and Eason
properties. These sources may include, but are not necessarily limited to,
septic systems and fertilization in that area, and improperly sealed production
wells and other potential conduits to the deeper groundwater.
D. Kleinfelder recommends that the RWQCB review other potential sources of
nitrates-nitrogen in the surface water within the area. Specifically, Kleinfelder
recommends that further investigation of nitrates in surface water to the east
and southeast of the nurse be conducted. In light of the evidence produced
to date, a reduced monitoring schedule should be considered.
9
7226.E02/ST012R0693
Page 39 of 42 September 11, 2012
11
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
