KLE/NFELDER
B.igX(people Pglrl Solunarc
• 6. BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
6.1 PURPOSE OF THE BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
BMPs have been implemented by Norman's Nursery with the following goals:
A) further limit irrigation water use
B) limit fertilizer use
C) further limit irrigation tailwater
D) limit potential impact of fertilizers in the irrigation water on surface and ground
water quality
6.2 PROGRESS ON THE PREVIOUSLY PROPOSED BMPs
• Given the above-referenced goals, numerous BMPs have been implemented at the
nursery. Some of the BMPs were detailed in Kleinfelder's document titled "Best
Management Practices, Norman's Nursery...." dated August 18, 1997. Those BMPs
and their current status are detailed as follows:
1. The domestic/irrigation back-up well behind the office complex was (prior to
July 1, 1998) the source of potable water for Norman's Nursery. As well,
water samples were collected and analyzed monthly.
The old domestic/irrigation back-up well behind the office complex was
shut down for maintenance repairs in mid-October, 1998. Consequently,
the discharge of water from the back-flushing of the well into the
triangular-shaped pond ("Basin C") by the office complex has been
limited. The new domestic well is now on line and is being monitored
monthly by others. Copies of the monitoring results were reportedly
submitted to PHS/EHD.
•
117226.E02/ST012R0696 Page 29 of 43 September 14, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
