This project also required a tremendous amount
of labor to move the existing stock around before the new bare-root
stock was received. After containerizing the new plants, they were
subsequently grouped so that the irrigation times could be reduced so
that the plants' watering needs would be met but not exceeded. During
the month of March 1998, the irrigation systems were checked and the
timers were reset to accommodate the above-described procedures.
Continuous grouping of plants based on water usage should be
continued.
13. Norman's Nursery intends to provide the RWQCB an annual report of onsite
monitoring. This would include runoff basin, source water and irrigation data.
In addition, if monitoring wells are ultimately installed, the information
collected from these wells would also be included.
This reporting is not going to be implemented given that it would be
repetitious of the reporting requirements required by the RWQCB's
• Monitoring and Reporting Program #97-811.
6.3 PREVIOUSLY UN-PROPOSED BMPs IMPLEMENTED
In addition to further efforts as described above, the following additional BMPs, which
were not previously proposed, have also been implemented:
A) The existing domestic/back-up irrigation well required frequent backflushing
to maintain its suitability for domestic use. Therefore, to eliminate the volume
of backflush water that was being discharged to the storm water pond behind
the office, a new domestic well was installed to the east of the office complex
(north of the triangular-shaped storm water retention pond). The well is
operational, and the repairs to the old well were completed in late November
1998. Therefore, Norman's has significantly decreased the amount of water
they are pumping and the amount of water discharged to Potter Creek.
B) In April 1999, the nursery switched from "Osmacote" by Scotts TM to Meister TM
• by Helena Chemical. Both are a slow-release polymer-coated fertilizer which
117226.E02/ST012R0696 Page 33 of 43 September 14, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
