l KLE/NFELOER
their installation . Groundwater gradient was calculated to be 0. 003 feet/foot to the
southwest during the third quarter monitoring event. In general , groundwater flow since
December 28 , 1999 has been consistently calculated to be 0. 003 feet/foot to the
southwest. This flow direction matches the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water
Conservation District data detailed in Section 2.4.4.
12 . Nitrate-nitrogen was detected in the groundwater samples collected from the deep wells
DP-1 , DP-2 , and DP-3. Reported concentrations ranged from 1 . 3 (DP- 1 ) to 6 . 6 (DP-2)
mg/I during the third quarter 2012. The pattern of nitrate concentration distribution in the
deep aquifer appears to indicate that the highest nitrate concentrations exists upgradient
of the nursery. This pattern of nitrate as N concentrations has been consistent
throughout past sampling events .
13 . Review of past data regarding deep aquifer groundwater sampling by Kleinfelder and
others showed a seasonal trend in the Dodge well . No other trends, seasonal or
otherwise, can be ascertained from the data over time. The highest concentrations, with
few exceptions , have generally been from the Eason well . According to deep aquifer
gradients detailed by the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation
District reports , and to the deep aquifer gradients calculated by Kleinfelder3s monitoring
of DP- 1 through DP-3 to date, flow of the deeper aquifer is towards the southwest.
Based on the data plotted , it appears that the source(s) of the deep aquifer nitrates is
located off site in the areas of the Dodge and Eason wells .
14. The MCL of 10 mg/I for nitrate as N was exceeded in one of three samples collected
from location D- 1 during the fourth quarter 2012 . The MCL for nitrate as N was not
exceeded in any of the other surface water samples collected during the fourth quarter
2012 . The WQGs for ammonia as N , including the SNARL and T&O Threshold were not
exceeded in any of the surface water samples collected during the quarter.
15 . Rainfall was monitored on the Norman's Nursery site by nursery personnel from June 2 ,
1997 to present. There were 33 days of noted precipitation , totaling 11 . 95 inches
recorded during the fourth quarter 2012. The precipitation total is 25. 68 inches for the
calendar year. Precipitation totals for each day are listed on the attached Table 2 and
graphed on Chart 2-8 .
117226 .E02/ST013R0176 Page 36 of 40 January 31 , 2013
Copyright 2013 Meinfelder
