The open excavation limited, to some extent, the choice of drilling
locations. Boring locations are depicted in Exhibit 3 and lab results are listed in Table
2.
Boring D-2 (Exhibit 7) was drilled opposite the center of the former diesel tank at its
east side. A loader opened a passageway through the piled soil to allow rig access.
At this point the boring was probably 12 to 15 feet from the former tank. The hole was
advanced to a depth of 35 feet with no field indications of hydrocarbons. Cores from a
depth of 20 and 35 feet were selected for analysis. No hydrocarbons were reported.
Boring D-3 (Exhibit 8) was advanced to 30 feet at a location close to the center of the
west side of the former diesel tank and approximately 15 feet from it. This site was also
made accessible by moving aside the piled soil from the excavation. No hydrocarbons
were detected in the field nor in the two samples from 20 and 30 feet submitted to the
lab except for 0.012 ppm toluene in the core form 20 feet.
