MOUNTAIN HOUSE PRQPOS}?D ALTAMONT HEIGHTS TENTATIVE MAP 4. AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES.
In determining whether impacts to
agricultural resources are significant
environmental effects,lead agencies may
L refer to the California Agricultural Land
Evaluation and Site Assessment Model
(1997)prepared by the California Dept.
Lam' of Conservation as an optional model to
use in assessing impacts on agriculture
and farmland. Would the project:
F a) Convert Prime Farmland,Unique ■
Farmland,or Farmland of Statewide ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑
Importance(Farmland),as shown on
the maps prepared pursuant to the
Farmland Mapping and Monitoring
Program of the California Resources
Agency,to a non-agricultural use?
b) Conflict with existing zoning for ■ ❑ 1-1 Ll El
use,or a Williamson
Act contract?
c) Involve other changes in the existing . ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑
1 environment which,due to their
1 location or nature, could result in
conversion of Farmland to non-
agricultural use?
SETTING
The site of the proposed Altamont Heights project has been used for dry-land farming and is
currently planted in oats. Houses and buildings exist on the west side of the site. Byron
Bethany Irrigation District's Canal 155, an earthen irrigation canal, weaves through Grant
Line Village to the north of the project site. The canal is no longer in use. The California
Department of Conservation, Office of Land Conservation, and San Joaquin County have
designated the soils on the site as Farmland of Local Importance. The land is not in a
Williamson Act contract(EDAW,2005b, Figure 4.2-2).
1 SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS IDENTIFIED IN 2005 SPIIIEIR
f The SPIIIEIR identified three potentially significant impacts. One involves conversion of
agriculturally zoned land on the Pombo property(located northeast of the Mountain House
Community) to interim disposal of treated wastewater. This impact does not involve the
proposed project. The other two potentially significant impacts are:
Impact 4.2-3 Land Use and Agriculture—Direct Conversion of Important
Farmland. [Development of Specific Plan III] would result in the direct conversion
of approximately 760 acres of Important Farmland(Prime Farmland and Farmland of
4_9 ,
I
i
