LIGHT, AIR & SPACE CONSTRUCTION
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COMPANY
License Number 445403
R.E.P.Number 04072
_ 4.0 ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING
4.1 Tonography
The subject property is located at an elevation of approximately (229) feet above mean sea level,
based on the United States Geological Survey 7.5-minute Midway Topographic Quadrangle Map,
California. The map is dated 1953 and was photo-revised in 1980. According to the topographic
map, there is a slight topographic slope to the northeast.
4.2 Surface Water Characteristics
LA&S did not observe any water bodies or vegetation indicative of wetlands on the subject
property. "Wetlands" is a general term used to describe a variety of ecosystems, which may include
prairie potholes, marshes, fens, bogs, wet meadows, and swamps. The vast majority of the subject
property is open land covered with grasses and only a small portion is covered with buildings and
asphalt. It is unlikely that portions of the subject property would be classified as wetlands. One
` small drainage exits the Hawks Nest Ranch onto the property from the south and crosses the
southeast comer of the subject property, and into a ditch that parallels Hansen Road. The drainage
was dry at the time of our site visit.
The closet body of water is California Aqueduct located approximately 500 feet north of the subject
_ property. The subject property is not mapped in the 500-year in Flood Zone according to the EDR
Radius Map Report (FEMA Flood Plain Panel 0602990700A, see attached EDR report).
43 Geologic Characteristics
The subject site is located in southwestern San Joaquin County. The area is underlain by
Quaternary alluvial sediments deposited by alluvial fans and river processes. Surface soils are
predominately silts and clays. Site subsurface geology as mapped by regional studies showed
interbedded layers of fine-grained sediments and coarse gravelly sand separated by thick clay strata.
Shallow and deeper aquifers have been mapped in the region. The shallow water bearing strata
consist of laterally discontinuous sand stringers estimated at depths of about 25 to 40 feet or deeper.
Deeper aquifers occur at depths of over 100 feet. Both shallow and deep groundwater gradients
have been regionally mapped as flowing north towards the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta. The
deep aquifers just northeast of the property are a major water supply source in the region.
April 16 2003 Page 10 of 20
P.O.BOX 36303 •SAN JOSE•CA•95158-6303 •408/979-0661 •408/979-0621 FAX•408/322-7325 PAGER
GENERAL AND ENGINEERING CONTRACTOR•HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE REMOVAL CONTRACTOR•SITE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENTS
