Mau a2- q9
J
Dear Sirs,
I understand that Mr. J. Rios is once again proposing to build his labor
camp in the Lockeford area. I am opposed to this labor camp. I feel that
Mr. Rios is once again trying to pull the wool over our eyes with his
supposed good intentions. Why is it that no one can see that he is only
exploiting these workers to line his own pockets? It is too bad that this kind
of monopolization of human beings is being disguised as the right thing to
do for the workers. The problems that will be caused by this camp are real
and they are an important consideration when deciding what to do with this
camp. I am opposed to anyone trying to make money off of innocent
peoples backs. Mr. Rios will decide who lives there, he will own the store
they shop at, he will charge them room and board, and he will control whom
the laborers work for. Sounds more like a king, than a man who wants to
take the workers off the street. One man, Mr. J. Rios, will control all the
services that would be provided by numerous parts of the community. All
the profits from these services will go into his pocket alone rather than going
into the community where it would benefit us all. The agricultural nature of
our county assures that the migrant workers will always have a place in our
community. Perhaps Mr. Rios should pay his workers more if they are
having trouble affording places to stay, which I doubt is the type of problem
they make it out to be.
D
