This wetland may be best described as a "creatod"vernal
pool. This wetland feature is immediately adjacent to the eastern fence line and
appears to have-been created by the construction of an elevated form road along the
western edge of the adjacent parcel. The entire pool Is approximately 250 feet In length
and 6 feet wide. However, only 200 feet of the length of this pool is in the site; the
remaining 50 feet extends off-site to the north. The total on-site wetland area is
estimated to be less than 0.03 acres.
Wii nt 1FE' A limited number of wildlife species were observed In the project vicinity; oil of
these are common species found In agricultural areas of eastern San Joaquin County
(Table 2). A few ground squirrels (Spermophllus beecheyi) were observed just south
and west of the site. and a coyote (Canis lotrans) was observed running across the
project site. A variety of bird species were observed flying around and over the site and
perching In the trees near the residence north of the site. No raptor stick nests were
observed In any of these trees.
SENSITIVE SPECIES' Vernal pool invertebrates were observed In the single wetland in the
project site. Based on close visual inspection, these shrimp appeared to be California
linderlella (Linderiella occidentalis) and some species in the genus Branchinecto.
California linderlella is a common species with no listing status, while the genus
Bronchinecto contains both listed and non-iistod species. Since no spoctmens were
collected, microscopic Inspection required for species-level Identification was not
possible. The likelihood of these Bronchinecto being the federally-threatened vernal
pool fairy shrimp(B. lyncho Is considered high since It has been documented in both the
Unclen and Waterloo topographic quadrangles.
los Farm Servlces/20-acre parcel 3 2/19/98
90 'd 6Z89S9£60Z 1"010010I9-32J00W Wd 0£= £0 I0-£I-d3S
