The manure is liquefied and flushed through
these sluice channels by pond water being re-circulated by circulating pumps from the manure
lagoon.
The primary lagoon used for manure storage and recirculation is approximately 16.5 acres.
The overflow back-up lagoon is 13 acres capacity and is used primarily in the rainy season.
Solid Waste (Refuse and Dead Animal) Management
There are two 3 yard dumpsters that are emptied weekly by Stockton Scavengers Assoc. Inc-
This service handles the everyday employee generated garbage and the household garbage
of the resident manager.
The normal daily mortality of 250-300 chickens is incinerated in two incinerators (one in the
front unit, and one in the back unit.)
Feeding Operations
Chicken feed (grain) is stored in closed feed bins (silos) at the front and rear of the hen houses
and is augured into the automatic feeding system. This is a totally closed system.
Vector Control
Rodents are controlled by rodenticides applied in "Tom Cat' bait stations throughout the ranch.
These bait stations are serviced every two weeks. The grounds surrounding the hen houses
are disked and mowed to minimize rodent harborage.
Fly breeding is minimal with the manure lagoon disposal system. Areas attracting flies
(dumpsters, employee eating areas, etc.) will be treated with a sugar bait as necessary.
l6 4:i
