rNLS§3.3, SSS§ 5.3, 5.4. Table 1 below summarizes the soil physical and chemical characteristics
at the proposed soil-effluent interface:
1 TABLE 1
y SOIL PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS AND
ANALYTICAL TEST RESULTS
SAMPLE DEPTH AND SOIL SOIL NITRATE- pH AND
r (SAMPLE NUMBER ON CLASSIFICATION NITROGEN CONTENT CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY
TEST RESULT FORM) I In meq/100g
3 FT DEPTH Clay Loam 73 ppm NO -N 7.9 20.9 me /100
C. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§6.2. To assess the permeability at the test depth which corresponds with the soil-effluent
interface, the aforementioned percolation test boring was completed in the locations depicted on the
Site Plan found in Appendix D.
SSS§ 6.3. After drilling, the sidewall of the boring was scored with a pry-bar to open potentially
! smeared soil surfaces that may have occurred due to the clay soil. Two inches of fine gravel was
1 placed at the bottom and three-inch perforated PVC pipe was inserted in the test boring. After these
procedures, the boring was pre-saturated with 12 inches of water approximately 24 hrs prior to the
start of testing.
i
SSS§6.4,6.5. On June 14, 2016,percolation testing commenced at 0600 hrs. No standing water
j was observed after the 24-hr soak period. Consequently, EHD Perc Test Procedure#2 was
t conducted. Testing was done over a four-hour period to induce maximum soil saturation.
The test results indicate a perc rate of 62.5 min/in after complete soil saturation. A perc rate of 60
min/inch or faster is considered acceptable. The water level was not refilled to the starting level for
the last 30 minute test, which slowed percolation due to lower head. This illustrates the effect that
head pressure has on soil permeability. A summary of the perc test results with corresponding
application rates in gallons of effluent accepted per square foot of soil per day are illustrated in Table
2:
TABLE 2
j 1 PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS WITH CORRESPONDING
APPLICATION RATES IN GALLONS/FT'/DAY
36 INCH DEEP PERC TEST BORING 62.5 min/inch / 0.190 gallons/ft2/day
PERCOLATION RATE/APPLICATION RATE
a OFFICIAL PERC TEST
j Application Rates adapted from Waste Quality Control for Siting,Design,Operation and Maintenance of On-sire Wastewater Treatment Systems and is based on the Perc Rate.
t
j Page -3-
Chesney Consulting
Y
