C\TAT
tA S S O C I A T E S I N C
within a 2,000-foot radius of the site One well is located on the site and five wells are located on
adjacent properties The closest surface water to the site is greater than 2,000 feet
' These findings suggest that shallow groundwater in the vicinity of the site is potentially being used
for drinking water The use of shallow groundwater as a current potable water source was
' considered a complete pathway
The inhalation of vapor volatilized from the subsurface soils and from the dissolved groundwater
' plume at the site are also the potential exposure pathways that were evaluated Even though the
estimated extent of hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater do not extend beneath any building on
site, inhalation of both indoor and outdoor vapor were evaluated
The next step in evaluating complete exposure pathways is identifying potential on-site and off-
site receptors
]Potential Receptors
' The location of the former USTs is northwest of the site's grocery store, underlying asphalt
pavement Chemical analytical data indicate residual soil contamination at the site is limited to the
M immediate vicinity of the former USTs Vertically, the residual soil contamination is generally
limited from 15 feet to 45 feet bgs
In order to assess potential receptors, ATC personnel performed a reconnaissance of the area
surrounding the site in June 1999 The site and surrounding area consist of commercial,
agricultural, and residential properties A commercial building comprised of a grocery store and
' beauty shop is located approximately 25 feet from the former USTs Beyond the commercial
building there is a residence is present, approximately 95 feet to the east of the former USTs A
domestic well is also present at a distance of 125 feet
' The site is paved with asphalt or concrete and the surfacing materials appeared to be in good
P P g PP
condition The only on-site structure located in the immediate vicinity of the former gasoline UST
is the commercial building This building has a concrete floor which appeared to be in good
condition with no open cracks observed
' Sensitive habitats, such as wetlands, were not observed in the immediate vicinity of the site during
the reconnaissance No streams, pond, or canals were observed within 2,000 feet of the site
A review of the above information indicates that, at present, there are no known completed
exposure pathways at the subject site However, there are several potential exposure pathways
that exist at the project site which are described below
i
Residual BTEX constituents have leached to groundwater in very low concentrations,
affecting designated beneficial uses, most notably that of a potable water supply,
w NI48851repomkNFA-Request doc 8
