A dsy$tB/715 4191-E Poser Inn Read, Sacramento, CA 95826 (916)452.29`
•FREMONT •IRVINE •HOUSTON • BOSTON e SACRAMENTO a CULVER CITY • SAN LOSE
July 13, 1987
87048-1
EIr. Steve Epperson
Beacon Oil company
525 west Third street
Hanford, california 93230
Subject: Transmittal of Report No. 87048-1, Subsurface
Environmental Investigation, soil Boring and
Monitoring Well Installation at Beacon Station,
§675, 13975 East Highway 88, Lockeford, California
k Mr. Epperson:
This report presents our findings from the environmental
investigation conducted at the above-referenced site. The
purpose of the investigation was to evaluate potential
hydrocarbon contamination of subsurface soil and ground water at
Che site. The in
included the drilling of four soil
ation of four 2-inch diameter g
borings, installroundwater
well development and surveying, ground water
monitoring wells,
sampling, and laboratory analyses.
This investigation indicates that ground water beneath the site i
n
has hydrocarbo °otenstandardsthat
recommendedwithin
by gheeState
acceprally
ted drinking water r
Department of Health Service,. Two, open dry. wells are located
in catch basins adjacent to Highway 83. These dry wells lts. }ct as
drains for runoff (wash-downs, rain, product spills,
om
and
the product dispenser area provide a conduit for the
introduction of hydrocarbons into the soil and ground water. We
Tecommend that the dry wells be destroyed. We also reComm
edeand
that water in the ground water monitoring wells be samp
analyzed quarterlY for dissolved hydrocarbon contamination to
evaluate contaminate trends.
In our opinion, if ground water useage warrants, or if ground
water monitoring indicates the continuing or increasing
introduction of hydrocarbon contamination into the ground water,
----.-----_----..__...----...--__._-- .------the. of ground water contamination should be further
investigated by conducting--a sort--vapor--investigation--.an _or_._ y__.—_..__
excavating selectively located boreholes and installing
additional ground water monitoring wells.
