Weber Ave.,Thud Floor
Stockton,CA 95202
Attn: Mike Huggins
Re:Pcrm;.t#30278
Calaveras Materials,Inc.
This letter is a pctidon of reclassification and variance wavier for a well at 28983
MacArthur Blvd,Tracy for Calaveras Materials batch plant facility. We are requesting the
classification to be changed from an irrigation well to an industrial wall for concrete batch
plant use only. The reasons for this request would be as follows:
1. The well in its current state meets the California State minirribm guidelines for an
industrial well classification.
2. Based on the wells current construction and depth it cannot cause any further
contamination problems to the area.
3. Information from the current nitrate loading study, shows that extraction of the
nitrate water is the most efficient way to reduce nitrate levels in the aquifers.
4. Using the water from the well would be a benefit to the area by helping to lower
nitrate levels. The water would be used in concrete only, thus posing no further
contamination problems or health hazards.
5. This well would also give the County a source for testing the nitrate levels in the
future.
To help sway some of the concerns the County health department may have, we propose
two things at this time.
1. All the pipino and plumbing exposed above ground from the water sources be
labeled under guideline 601.2AVater supply and distribution.
2. The owners of the batch plant would have a secondary well drilled to meet the
potable water requirements.
These suggestions in our estimation would be a reasonable compromise for all parties
involved which in tum may eliminate the possibiliry of litigation.
We appreciate you taking the time to help us resolve this matter and consider our requests.
We look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Sin rely,
4 1
Sean S.
