CPC CARB 2008 CoMflestlen Tentlog Page S
4.0 SornpffW and Analyflcal Procedures
4.1 Emission Test Methods
chis section describes the procedures that TRC followed during the fief kompling program. The test
methods were CARB Methods and EPA Methods. The test methods and procedures used were:
CARB Method I Sampo and Velocity Traverses far Stationary Sources
CARB Method 2 Detemrinatlon of Stack Gas Velocity and Vowmetric Flow state
CARB Method 4 Deterrhinalion of MoMttre Content in Shack Gases
CARB Method 100 Procedures for Continuous Gaseous Ernission Stock 5ompllog
EPA Method 205 Verification of Gas Dilution Systems for Hefts instrument Calibrations
4.t.1 Gaseous(Combustion)Meastnsments
For the measurement of NOR,CO.VOC,and SO2,pollutants,and the diluents 02 and COs,a transportable
continuous emission monitoring system (TCEMs)was used. The measurement system Is designed to collect
and analyte a dean dry gas sample on a continuous basis. Effluent gas Is extracted from the source
through a stainless steel probe that is connected to a Teftonrm core heated sample One. The gas passes
through this heated system to a conditioner that removes entrained moisture and particulate. The clean
dried gas Is then directed to the measurement system. Periodic purging of the condensate reservoir of the
sample conditioner insures complete water removal and minimal buildup of condensate In the sample
stream.
A gas manifold and metering system is utlted In the measurement systern to direct sample gas to the
analyzw at the proper sample pressure, as dictated by the operating condrtkxu of the monitor. Only a
portion of the conditioned sample gas Is introduced to the colBxated Instrument for analysis while the
remaining sample Is bypassed from the manifold on a continuous basis.
For the VOC component,a heated sample was passed from the extraction point, directly to a heated FID
instrument. This eiirNnates any potential Was or sample loss associated with sample conditioning In
hydrocarbon measurements. A schematic of the TCEMS sampling system is provided In Flgtrre 1.
PQLL.1/rANTMCM11ORS DAM LOGGnr
Shack Outlet
FrSI VE a y:
ti .
~trr.n
SAMPLE CDNL 4K*4R
M
oc,TFw.VRS -
NIST
Coftallon(Mases
Figure I General Block Schematic of TCEMt Sample System
rt
TRC ENVIRONMENTAL CORPORATION 49614.000040000
C'%R*cts\CPC 49614QD0040000\aocs\GPC Eton m 50 Report Ver-2.doc
