Van Weerdhuizen Proposal Page 3
spread any closer than 200 ft from the Lone Tree Creek which is the
north border for Parcels 2 and 3 . This buffer zone distance will
prevent any potential runoff of the lagoon soil constituents into
Lone Tree Creek. Since there are 3630 cu ft in one acre-inch, 25
acres will be utilized to spread the soil one inch deep. Based
upon the calculations found in the "Conclusions" section of this
Proposal, soil spread over 25 acres should produce an acceptable
attenuation factor to allow the existing pasture grasses and soil
microflora to utilize these added constituents, primarily NO3-N.
In addition, a road is to be built between Parcels 1 and 4
that will be 806 ft long, 50 ft wide, and two turn-around areas,
each with a radius of 50 ft. Soil from the lagoon could be used
as a road base of approximately 6 inches, utilizing approximately
28, 000 cu ft of soil based upon the above dimensions of the road.
Used as a road base, water percolation through this lagoon soil
would be severely impeded, thus preventing a transport medium for
the contamination constituents.
Conclusions
It is proposed that Parcel #1 continue to operate as a
confined animal facility under Title 23 , Chapter 15, Article 6 of
the California Code of Regulations. This operation will be
conducted with regard for protection of the underlying groundwater.
The depth to groundwater is presently located at 75 ft below
the subject property. A water analysis performed on the domestic
well that serves the Van Weerdhuizen's residence revealed a NO3
concentration of 9. 7 mg/1 . Therefore, there has been a low NO3
concentration impact of the underlying groundwater at this point
in time. The subject parcel dairy had been in operation for 30+
(, .!
