It is possible that contamination to the soil may have occurred from the open, empty, chemical containers observed near the greenhouses. i L The potential exists for the above-ground fuel storage tank and industrial drum with dispenser to have caused contamination of the soil because of over-filling or spillage during fueling. 6. The industrial drum in the center of the property has the potential to cause contamination because of the unknown liquid inside. L Though the subject property may be located within an area of diffuse chromium-6 contaminated ground water,there is no reason to believe that the subject property is at a greater risk than any other property in the vicinity. The open container of machine oil to the immediate west of the subject property has the potential to contaminate the subject property through spillage. The chemical containers and spilled oil within the L adjacent barn may also pose a potential threat to the subject property. r 5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS L Given the historical and current uses of agricultural chemicals and petroleum products on the subject property, meaningful conclusions regarding the presence or extent of such material cannot be L determined without soil sampling and analysis. If the property owners or EHD are concerned about the potential presence of lead-based paints or L asbestos-containing materials in the older structures on the site,a survey to detect such materials should be conducted. If the structures are to be demolished, all applicable laws and regulations should be followed regarding the handling and disposal of suspect material. Any above-ground storage tanks or chemical drums which are to remain in use on the subject property should be stored within secondary containment. If they are to be moved, the site should be evaluated L for any surface contamination that previously may have been obscured by the objects. The tanks and drums removed should be disposed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The unknown liquid observed within one drum should be identified and disposed of appropriately. it All debris on the subject property should be removed prior to site development. At that time,the site should be evaluated for any surface contamination that previously may have been obscured by debris. V The debris removed should be disposed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
