i <br /> L November 15,2004 <br /> NOA Project Number: E04123A <br /> j The potential exists for the petroleum and chemicals from past and current agricultural use to have <br /> L caused contamination of the soil. It is possible that contamination to the soil may have occurred from <br /> the open, empty, chemical containers observed near the greenhouses. <br /> i <br /> L The potential exists for the above-ground fuel storage tank and industrial drum with dispenser to have <br /> caused contamination of the soil because of over-filling or spillage during fueling. <br /> 6. The industrial drum in the center of the property has the potential to cause contamination because of <br /> the unknown liquid inside. <br /> L Though the subject property may be located within an area of diffuse chromium-6 contaminated ground <br /> water,there is no reason to believe that the subject property is at a greater risk than any other property <br /> in the vicinity. <br /> The open container of machine oil to the immediate west of the subject property has the potential to <br /> contaminate the subject property through spillage. The chemical containers and spilled oil within the <br /> L adjacent barn may also pose a potential threat to the subject property. <br /> r 5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> L <br /> Given the historical and current uses of agricultural chemicals and petroleum products on the subject <br /> property, meaningful conclusions regarding the presence or extent of such material cannot be <br /> L determined without soil sampling and analysis. <br /> If the property owners or EHD are concerned about the potential presence of lead-based paints or <br /> L asbestos-containing materials in the older structures on the site,a survey to detect such materials should <br /> be conducted. If the structures are to be demolished, all applicable laws and regulations should be <br /> followed regarding the handling and disposal of suspect material. <br /> Any above-ground storage tanks or chemical drums which are to remain in use on the subject property <br /> should be stored within secondary containment. If they are to be moved, the site should be evaluated <br /> L for any surface contamination that previously may have been obscured by the objects. The tanks and <br /> drums removed should be disposed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The <br /> unknown liquid observed within one drum should be identified and disposed of appropriately. <br /> it <br /> All debris on the subject property should be removed prior to site development. At that time,the site <br /> should be evaluated for any surface contamination that previously may have been obscured by debris. <br /> V The debris removed should be disposed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. <br /> If the well on the property will not be used in the future, it should be destroyed following EHD <br /> L. regulations.If ground water is to be utilized in the future,the property owner may wish to contact EHD <br /> regarding the water quality issues in the vicinity. <br /> 10 <br /> 6W "004 <br /> to. <br />
