NNW
INTRODUCTION
Mr. Robert Pombo has completed construction of a raised building pad and a raised filter bed
disposal area adjacent to the building pad. It is anticipated that a house is to be moved onto this
pad with the raised filter bed area serving as the effluent disposal area for this house. Since the
pad and filter bed area were constructed on a"Designated Remainder" from a prior parcel split,
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)has stipulated that percolation
testing must be done within the proposed disposal area.
EHD is also concerned with the depth to groundwater. The static water table depth was estimated
by sounding Mr. Pombo's on-site domestic well.
PERCOLATION TESTING
On June 27, 2005, at 1830 hrs, two shallow percolation test borings were hand-drilled, both to a
depth of 36 inches in the southeast corner(SEC) and the northwest corner(NWC) of the proposed
filter bed area. The bottom of these borings slightly extended into the underlying native soil.
After drilling the percolation test borings, the bottom and sides were scarified to open smeared
soil surfaces and the cuttings removed. Two inches of pea gravel was placed in the test borings,
along with a three-inch O.D. PVC perforated pipe. The test borings were pre-saturated with 18
inches of clear water to ensure complete saturation. All pre-saturation water had seeped away in
both borings by the start of percolation testing. Testing commenced on June 29, 2005 at 0600 Ins
under San Joaquin County Environmental Health Procedure#2 guidelines. The final percolation
rates obtained were 31.3 minutes per inch(min/in or mpi) for the southeast comer test boring and
35.7 min/in for the northwest comer boring.
The following chart summarizes the percolation tests results in minutes per inch (mpi).
PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS SUMMARY
SOUTHEAST CORNER(SEC) NORTHWEST (NWC) CORNER
OF FILTER BED OF FILTER BED
PERCOLATION TEST AT THE 36 INCH DEPTH: PERCOLATION TEST AT THE 36 INCH DEPTH:
31.3 MIN/IN 35.7 MIN/IN
Chesney Consulting
