L
LMarch 22, 2005
NOA Project Number: E04132-A
'4 5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
The Site is depicted on the Geologic Map of the San Francisco -San Jose Quadrangle (199 1) as within the
Quaternary Modesto Formation. This map unit consists of arkosic alluvium forming Mokeltunne
River terraces and alluvial fan; chiefly sand with minor gravel and silt;probably glacial outwash
(Plate 7).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil Survey
to be composed of Galt clay,0 to 2 percent slopes, (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table 4 presents some
r.
selected properties of these soils:
Table 4.
San Joaquin County Soil Survey
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) mmhos/c Reaction ability absorption
Symbol I I in pH (in/hr) fields
Galt clay,0- 0-25: Clay;CL,CH <2 6.6-7.3 0.06-0.2 Poor:
2%slopes, 25-34: Clay,silty clay; CL,CH <2 6.6-8.4 0.06-0.2 cemented
160. 34-60: Cemented --- --- — pan,too
clayey,hard
to pack.
Note:The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
5.1 Soil Boring Locations
A total of four soil borings were advanced on the Site, two to a depth of about 23 feet and two to a
depth of three and a half feet. The soil borings were used later for percolation test holes;the
locations of the borings are indicated in Plate 1.
L 5.2 Soil Boring Dimensions
The soil borings were generally three feet deep,as noted above, and were four inches in diameter.
5.3 Soil Lithology Observed
I Generally, the soil encountered in the boring is similar to the soils reported by the San Joaquin
County Soil Survey for the area (USDA, 1992). Tables 5 , 6, 7 and 8 present the soil logs for the soil
borings.
4
7
L
