Bail Bond Business Page 10 of 13
Our Project Number: LGS080549
January 13, 2009
2.3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
2.3.4.1 Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
proposed construction for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic system
design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use
factor, whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
The bail bonds business is proposed to have approximately one to two (1 to 2) employees per
day, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Approximately one or two (1 or 2) customers are
expected each day.
s
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references.
The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal ./
S ar (2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). The references indicate/
t at 13 ga Ions for each employee is typical for an office worker and five (5) gallons for each
c mer. (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998).
The following table presents the septic waste water uses associated with the Site. The rates
pres rom the re rences provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in
ge. Careful examination, professional judgment, and experience are necessary to select a
teasonable flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project
are presented next.
Table 4.
Typical Quantity of Effluent.
Category Total People Average Quantity per Average Daily Flow per Parcel \
Pei Day Person ,) a
Customers 5 gal/day/customer 2 customers* 5 gpd =10 g
0
Employees 13 gal/day/employee 2 employees* 13 gpd = 26 god 26
Total Long Term Average Daily Flow = 36 gpd
Note: gpd is gallons per day.
For the subject property, the total daily waste water quanti is 36 lions per day.
The,3verage total nitrogen goncentration of domestic waste water is normally considered to be /
20-85 mg/L-N with 35 to 45 mg/L-N being typical (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). It is
estimated that commercial use will have Digbier concentrations of total nitrogen when compared j
to residential use. It is estimated thafthe average concentration for total nitrogen in waste
water for the project is approximately 85 mg/L-N over the long term.
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240-209.367.3701 •Fax 209.369.4228 02008 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc
