DOWN-SLOPE WIDTH(1)
Mound side slope of 3:1.
Height of mound=(4 in. Peat material, 12 in. Sand Fill+9 in.Aggregate Absorption Area +6 in. avg.soil cap
thickness)
Height= 3 horizontal x 3.2 ft. vertical= 10.5 ft. Use 10 ft
OVERALL LENGTH AND WIDTH(L+W)
L= 130ft
W=5011
SOIL COVER
The soil cover may consist of on-site silty clay surface soil (USCS =cl, ml) material. As
referenced,the slopes must not exceed 3:1, which will place the height of the mound at
approximately 2.5 feet higher than surrounding grade.
D. MOUND SYSTEM OPERATIONAL COMPONENTS
CONFIGURATION OF PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
The distribution piping must discharge the effluent uniformly over the drain rock bed,with five-foot spaced
orifices so that effluent application area is -4 ft'/orifice. Force main(transport line)piping will be to
center-feed manifold. Laterals connect to the manifold by"cross construction" and not"tee-to-tee."
There will be a total of eight laterals- four on each side of the manifold,three feet apart. Orifices shall be
drilled with a sharp drill and installed facing up,with orifice shields. Clean-outs at the distal ends of the
eight laterals will extend upward towards the ends of the mound with control valves at the"turn-up"and
with access boxes, as described on the Plans.
LATERAL LENGTH AND DIAMETER
Piping to consist of PVC Schedule 40. Lateral length shall be 50 ft for each lateral, including the 1 inch clean-
out sweep assembly. The diameter shall be 1 inch I.D.
PERFORATION SIZE,SPACING AND NUMBER PER LATERAL
Perforations shall be 1/8 in. dia. For effluent distribution applications to be -4 ft'/orifice,the spacing of
perforations= 5 feet. The number of perforations per lateral shall be:
N=(p-x)+0.5 =(50 ft -. 5 ft)+0.5 = 11 perforations per lateral x 8 laterals= 88 total perforations
LATERAL DISCHARGE RATE (LDR)
Required distal pressure is 5 ft,translates to 0.43 gpm per orifice. LDR=0.43 gpm/perforation x 11
perforations/lateral =4.73 gpm/lateral.
MANIFOLD AND FORCE MAIN DIAMETER
The force main and manifold shall be 2.0 in. I.D., composed of PVC Schedule 40.
NETWORK DISCHARGE RATE(NDR)
NDR= 8 laterals x 4.73 gpm/lateral=38 gpm.
TOTAL DYNAMIC HEAD(TDH)
An estimate of the TDH is provided assuming a total distance of 250 feet from the dosing chamber to the
end distribution network for the primary mound system. The TDH the pump must work against:
15
Chesney Consulting
