Presumably, a historical perspective would be
of benefit to you as well as an idea of our most recent uses and cultural practices.
My wife and I purchased our six acre parcel in 1990, For at least ten years prior to
our having purchased the land, it had been utilized as fenced irrigated pasture land.
It is hard to find anyone who can remember back any further than that, but we are
comfortable in relating "neighborhood consensus has it the property had never
been planted to any permanent crops". l believe this would Include grapes.
Subsequent to our purchase, the fences were removed and the land worked up. It
was then leveled and a (t one acre) pad was created {with top soil) to
accommodate our existing residence. The remaining land was left fallow for the
next few years. In 1995,.we planted the remaining land (t four acres) to almond
trees. During the orchard's first few years, care and culture were kept to a
minimum consisting mainly of hoeing (out to the dripline), irrigation (by flooding j-
four times a year), and a combination of dishing and mowing for weed control of
the row centers. During this time no chemicals-or fertilizers were applied.
I.
e
i
I
i
i
I'
