k" KLEINFELDER
An emp/ogee owned company
File No. 23197.G02
February 14, 2006
Mr. Ryan Voorhees
CRV Enterprises, Inc.
28082 Nichols Road
Galt, CA 95637
Subject: ADDITIONAL NITRATE LOADING CALCULATIONS
PROPOSED ASHTON PLACE 2 SUBDIVISION
PETERS, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Vorhees:
As requested, this letter is a supplemental to our Soil Suitability And Nitrate Loading
Study that was issued February 10, 2006 for the Ashton Place 2 subdivision. The
purpose of our study was to determine the suitability of the property for septic tank
usage. The study was performed in general accordance to the requirements of Section
9-10100© of San Joaquin County Ordinance. The following includes additional results
of our nitrate loading calculations for the above-mentioned subdivision
Nitrate Loading Calculations
We have been requested by Mr. Mike Huggins of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services Department Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) to calculate the nitrate
loading for the proposed leach field. As you are aware, the drinking water standard for
nitrate is 45 milligrams per liter (NO3) and 10 mg/I as Nitrogen (N). In our evaluation of
nitrate loading, we have used the Hantzsche mass balance equation (source: Predicting
Ground-Water Nitrate-Nitrogen Impacts, Hantzsche and Finnemore (1992)), which is
presented below with an explanation for each factor and the value used in our study.
We have calculated the average nitrate (Nc) in groundwater based on two homes per lot
being developed in the future as required by Mr. Huggins with SJCEHD.
N,= AWN„, (1-D) + (Nb) r
AW + r
Where:
Nc = Average calculated nitrate-nitrogen in groundwater resulting from domestic
sources and precipitation — mg/l, as N
23197.G021STOL057 February 14,2006
Copyright 2006 Kleinfelder, Inc.
