` September 10, 2004
NOA Project Number: E040104A
Average potential evapotranspiration was obtained from the California Irrigation
Management Information System (CIMIS). Stockton is located within evapotranspiration
zone number 12. The average rain fall for the Stockton area was obtained from the Western
v Regional Climate Center (www.wrcc.dri.edu), and was found to be 1.16 inches per month for
the years 1965 through 1977.
Based on this method, the average deep percolation of rain for the Stockton area is estimated
to be 3.16 inches. The nitrate concentration of rain fall was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N
V (Hantzsche and Finnemore, 1992).
3.3 Current On-Site Sources of Nitrate
6. Current on-site sources of nitrate include any fertilizers applied to agriculture and the existing
on-site septic system.
3.3.1 Existing Septic System
One septic system currently exists on Parcel 6 of the Site. This septic system services the
existing residence. The calculated daily flow from this source is determined in Section 3.4,
below.
3.3.2 Agricultural Contribution
Mr. Greg Arnaudo indicated that his fertilizer program is directed by Mr. Phil Romina of
Simplot Grower Solutions, Lodi (personal communication, September 1, 2004). Because the
` fertilization is handled by a licensed professional, it is assumed that an appropriate quantity of
fertilizer is being applied. In addition, the alfalfa crop appears healthy, so the field is assumed
to be "in balance," with the proper nutrients and irrigation applied. The irrigation water and
b. nitrogen provided to the crops have not be considered in the nitrate loa tng c cu atton or
this reason. ....., . ,. ._
3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
3.4.1 Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from
` the proposed residences for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic
system design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak
use factor, whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
4 I
