L
July 5,2005
NOA Project Number: E05027A
Based on this method, the average deep percolation of rain for the Lodi area is estimated to be 5.76
inches. The nitrate concentration of rain fall was estimated to be 1 mg/L-N (Hantzsche and
Finnemore, 1992).
4.3 Current On-Site Sources of Nitrate
There are no current on-site sources of Nitrate, the property is vacant with no known septic
6. systems.
4.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
so
4.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofDomestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
b. The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
proposed residences for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic system design
purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use factor, whereas
L the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
Plate 10 is the nitrate loading calculation for the new development. According to Mr. Sandhop
(personal communication,March 8, 2005) that the property will be sold and the buyer will construct
a house on the site. Our office estimates that the property will likel hold a three to four bedroo
house. A conservative estimate is it will be occupied by no more than up to five peop e over the
. long term. Because of the small size of the lot,it is unlikely that there will be room for a second
dwelling unit. Each resident is assumed to use 70 gallons per day (Crites and Tchobanoglous 1998).
For our nitrate loading estimate we will have five people generating 70 gallons per day of waste
water.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
6 uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards
(2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). The text from Crites and Tchobanoglous
(1998) (Table 4-2)indicates that the typical residential use rate is 70 gallons per day. The EPA
6„ (1980) Design Manual (Table 4-6) indicates the typical use rate is 45 gallons per day for a resident.
The higher estimate of Crites and Tchobanoglous will be used for residential use.
L The following tables presents the septic waste water uses associated with the Site. The rates
presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in usage.
Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to select a reasonable
flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for the uses associated with this project are presented in
the following table.
4
