R5-2002-0034 <br /> WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS <br /> FOR <br /> SUTTER HOME WINERY <br /> __ <br /> ODI FACILITY <br /> SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, (hereafter Board) finds <br /> that: <br /> 1. Sutter Home Winery(hereafter Discharger) submitted a Report of Waste Discharge (RWD) dated <br /> 2 August 2001 to treat and dispose of process wastewater generated in a winery. An addendum to <br /> the RWD was submitted on 15 November 2001 and additional material was submitted on <br /> 13 December 2001. <br /> 2. The RWD was prepared to address an existing operation. Because wastewater discharge was <br /> initiated without first obtaining WDRs, the Discharger was ordered to prepare an Operation and <br /> Maintenance Plan and Groundwater Monitoring Workplan. Those reports are contained in the <br /> 15 November 2001 RWD. <br /> 3. Sutter Home Winery owns the property where the winery facility and the wastewater ponds and <br /> land application areas,are located. The Discharger will store approximately 18 million gallons of <br /> wine per year. <br /> 4. The winery was constructed in 1998 and is located on 297 acres (Assessor's Parcel Nos. 011-15- <br /> 12, 011-15-23, 011-09-03, and 011-09-14) in Sections 34 and 35, T4N, R5E, MDB&M, at 18667 <br /> Jacob Brack.Road, Lodi in San Joaquin County. The location of the winery facility is shown on <br /> Attachment A, which is attached hereto and is made part of this Order by reference. <br /> 5. Activities at the winery include receiving and shipping grape juice or wine and distribution in <br /> bulk containers. 'Neither crushing nor bottling occurs at the facility. Wastewater is generated <br /> during tank, equipment, and floor cleaning activities. Wastewater is also generated when <br /> stormwater falls on tank farms and mixes with process water. <br /> 6. A distillery has not been constructed at the facility, and the Discharger has no plans to install a <br /> distillery. <br /> 7. During wine storage and distribution, various chemicals are used as cleaner/sanitizers. These <br /> compounds may include the following: <br /> Chemical Name and Tye Storage Agent Quantity Stored <br /> Citric (granular) 50 lb bags in Storage Container 750 lbs <br /> Anhydrous Ammonia Closed system pressure vessel 15,600 lbs <br /> Liquid Nitrogen Vacuum Jacketed pressure vessel 3,000 gallons <br />
