Sutter Home Winery(hereafter Discharger) submitted a Report of Waste Discharge (RWD) dated
2 August 2001 to treat and dispose of process wastewatergenerated in a winery. An addendum to
the RWD was submitted on 15 November 2001 and additional material was submitted on
13 December 2001.
2. The RWD was prepared to address an existing operation. Because.wastewater discharge was
initiated without first obtaining WDRs, the Discharger was ordered to prepare an Operation and
Maintenance Plan and Groundwater Monitoring Workplan. Those reports are contained in the
15 November 2001 RWD.
3. Sutter Home Winery owns the property where the winery facility and the wastewater storage and
land application areas are located. The Discharger will store and/or ferment approximately 18
million gallons of wine per year.
4. The winery was constructed in 1998 and is located on 107 acres (Assessor's Parcel Nos. 011-150-
12 and 011-150-23) in Sections 34 and 35, T4N, R5F, MDB&M, at 18667 Jacob Brack Road,
Lodi in San Joaquin County. Activities at the winery include receiving and shipping grape juice or wine, fermentation,
processing into finished wines, and distribution in bulk containers. Neither crushing nor bottling
occurs at the facility. Wastewater is generated during tank, equipment, and floor cleaning
activities. Wastewater is also generated when stormwater falls on tank farms and mixes with
process water.
6. A distillery has not been constructed at the facility, and the Discharger has no plans to install a
distillery.
7. During wine production, various chemicals are used as either an additive, a fining agent, oras a
cleaner/sanitizer. These compounds may include the following: iE
Wine Additive Wine Fining Agent Cleaner/sanitizer
Citric Acid Bentonite Caustic Soda
