Re: Ltr. Dtd. 7/25/03, EHD, SJC, Clements Hills Vineyard Properties, LLC
The above referenced letter requested additional comments on two items,as follows
1. Abandoned RR
2. Water Well
Item 1 - Three persons were interviewed in Lockeford to determine when the last train used the
tracks. The most knowledgeable person worked for the newspaper in Lockeford. She had her
picture made with the last train when it stopped in Lockeford. It was about 18 years ago.
Another respondent stated they have been in Lockeford 15 years and no trains were running when
they moved there. All the ties and tracks have been removed. The period of 18 years is
considered long enough to leach out any surface contaminants spilled. The creosote from the ties
would have also leached down into the base material. The RR bed was again visited on Aug. 6,
2003 to observe the vegetation. On both sides of the RR roadbed vegetation has grown which
equals the vegetation on the adjoining property. Also two shallow ponds in Bear Creek where the
RR crossed were observed. Frogs and aquatic insects were present in the ponds. The location of
the RR is quite evident. The creosote residue may remain for some time. Since the location and
the chemical used to treat the ties are public knowledge it does not appear warranted to conduct a
Phase U Study.
Item 2 -The address 22205 N. Johnson Road is not in the actual vicinity of the site. It is
approximately 1/4 mile from the easterly parcel. The site has no street address. The site is drawn
in on the Clements, CA. USGS Map. (Exhibit"B")Copy attached. The nearest off site well is
located at 2263 N. Johnson Rd, 1300' east of the east boundry of the site.
The new on site well should be tested for DBCP and Nitrates.when the Soil Suitability Study is
prepared. It is not known how many lots will be served by the on site well(s).
No additional information is available at this time. Thank you for your cooperation.
End of Narrative
