i Surface &Subsurface Contamination Report Page 18 Sandhu Project Project No. 597.1 February 12, 2009 4.0 SUMMARY OF SITE RECONNAISSANCE Observations of the Property made during the site reconnaissance on January 14, 2009 are described below. (See Appendix A for reference maps and Appendix B for photos of the Property.) Property Setting&Location The area is in a rural part of western San Joaquin County about 6 miles southeast of Tracy- This area is in agricultural use, principally to raise row or grain crops. The Property consists of two contiguous agricultural parcels that, combined, have a total area of about 258 acres. It is situated on the east side of / Kasson Road and is bounded by Kasson Road, the San Joaquin River, the Banta- Carbona Lift Canal, and MacChesney Road. Although the Property has a Tracy address, it is actually in a rural area about 6 miles southeast of Tracy. The area is entirely in agricultural use, primarily to grow row or grain crops. The subject Property is the only farm in the immediate area engaged in growing orchard trees. The soils in this area are heavy, clay-rich types typical of river flood plains. Pliysica escription In general the Property consists of a large orchard of young almond trees. A small par of the Property adjacent to the flood control levee along the San quin-kiver remains fallow. The almond trees are drip-irrigated with water supplied from a nearby irrigation canal and associated piping of the Banta- Carbona Irrigation District. The Banta-Carbona Lift Canal forms the north property line. No stained soil, stressed vegetation, unusual odors, or other evidence suggestive of a hazardous was noted on the Property. The orchards aside, the following paragraphs outline some details of each of the three parcels that comprise the Property. Building Complex The existing farm building complex lies near Kasson Road. It is located on a recently constructed gravel pad with a total area of about one acre. Installations on the pad include a mobile home, a permanent steel storage building, a cargo container used as storage space, and an irrigation water pumping station. -- The mobile home is a double-wide trailer occupied by the family of a farm employee. It is served by an onsite septic sewage system. The septic tank is located to the rear of the trailer, and the leach field extends along the east line of 2937 Veneman Ave.,4B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
