San Joaquin County Community Project Description
Development Department
Project Objectives
Applicant Objectives
The Applicant has identified the following specific objectives to meet its goal of _
developing the maximum known aggregate reserves that can feasibly be mined
within the current design plan area.
■ Location: Secure approvals to mine the reserves onsite, which are located
within the southwestern portion of San Joaquin County, thus providing a
reliable and economic source to meet current and projected demand in the
region.
■ Profit: Responsibly operate a profitable aggregate mine and processing
facility. _
■ Period: Provide for approximately 40 years of approved aggregate
extraction, in accordance with availability of known resource reserves,
mining and reclamation plans, and foreseeable market demands.
Implementation and monitoring final reclamation activities would be
completed within 6-12 months of exhaustion of reserves or expiration of the
permit. _
■ Production: Provide for a total permitted production level of up to 20
million cubic yards (30 million tons); with sequencing broken into different
mining phases depending on geology, terrain, current technological
capabilities, and the intent to incorporate the visual screening provided by the
existing terrain.
■ Employment: Provide onsite staffing of 5-10 employees through the
production life of the mine. Two shifts could be employed when special
night operations are needed and three to five workers would be added to the
labor force.
■ Site conservation: Avoid sensitive natural resources;minimize aesthetic
impacts through site design, phasing, and concurrent reclamation; and _
implement reclamation concurrently with mining operations throughout the
life of the mine to return the site to a productive postmining agricultural land
use.
Lead Agency Project Objectives _
The County has not identified any separate goals or objectives for the project in
addition to those identified by the Applicant and stated above.
DeSilva Gates Quarry Project
Draft Environmental Impact Report 2-2
J85 05105.05
