YEAR 2007 BASE TRAFFIC OPERATIONS _
The SR-132/Bird Road Interchange Project Report has identified and evaluated three interchange design
alternatives (Alternative 1 through Alternative 3). Alternative 1 represents a "diamond" interchange
alternative concept, Alternative 2 represents a modified"par-cloe" interchange concept and Alternative 3
is a combination of Alternatives 1 (to the south of Route 132) and Alternative 2 (to the north of Route
132). The year 2007 AM and PM peak hour traffic volumes for each interchange alternative are shown
on Figure 8. The proposed design Alternative I through Alternative 3 intersection approach geometries -
for both Bird Road intersections with the SR-132 ramps are shown on Figure 9.
Intersection Operations: Intersection operations for the three interchange design alternatives were -
evaluated utilizing the Traffix-7.6 traffic operations analysis program. A rural peak hour factor (PHF) of
0.88 was assumed for both ramp intersections with Bird Road. Table 14 presents the projected year 2007
base intersection operations for all three design alternatives. Forecasted intersection operations shown in _
the table are based on stop sign control on the respective eastbound and westbound SR-132 off ramp
approaches to Bird Road. As shown in Table 14, the SR-132 ramp intersections with Bird Road are
projected to operate at LOS `B" or better during both the AM and PM peak hours under all three design _
alternatives. As also shown in Table 14, the Blewett Road intersections with Bird Road and Koster Road
are projected to operate at LOS"AB"for both peak hour periods.
TABLE 14
YEAR 2007 BASE PEAK HOUR INTERSECTION OPERATIONS
XVITII PROPOSED SR-132/BIRD ROAD INTERCHANGE(ALTERNATIVES I THROUGH 3)
Alternative 1 Alternative 2 Alternative 3
AM Peak Hour PM Peak Hour AM Peak PM Peak Hour AM Peak PM Peak Hour
Hour flour
Delay LOS Delay LOS Delay LOS Delay LOS Delay I LOS Delay LOS
WB 132/Bird Road 11.4 B 9.9 A 9.8 A 9.6 A 9.8 A 9.6 A
Ram s'
EB 132/Bird Road ]0.1 B 9.6 A 10.1 B 9.7 A 10.1 B 9.6 A
am
Rs' _
Bird Rd' 10.3 B 10.0 B 10.3 B 10.0 B 10.3 B 10.0 B
Blewettd.•ett R
Koster Rd./ 9.7 A 9.0 A 9.7 A 9.0 A 9.7 A 9.0 A
BlewettRd.•
•-Intersections evaluated m Two Way Stop Control intersections with stop-signs on minor road approaches
LOS-Minor Street Approach Level of Service for Two-way-stop-controlled intersections
Freeway Weaving Segment Operations: Table 15 presents the projected weaving operation between the
I-5/SR-132 and SR-132/Bird Road interchanges. As part of the interchange project, an auxiliary lane will
be constructed between the southbound I-5 direct off ramp to westbound SR-132 and the westbound SR-
132 off ramp to Bird Road. An auxiliary lane will also be constructed between the Bird Road on ramp to
eastbound SR-132 and the eastbound SR-132 direct off ramp to southbound I-5. The weaving evaluations
assume that these auxiliary lanes are in place and available for weaving.
2nd Draft DeSilva Gates Quarry Trafc&Circulation Analysis 20 October 2005
Jones&Stokes (R90577S002/15-4000.01)
