k'q KLEINFELDER
P
screened interval depth, it is Kleinfelder's opinion that the effects of leakage from the canal
 P
would not significantly affect the groundwater level in this well and would likely be negligible if
it did. However, future groundwater soundings and resulting flow and gradients should be
assessed for any suspected anomalies, which may be caused by leakage from the Delta Mendota
Canal. Mr. Borges from the PHS/EHD has additionally requested that the deep wells be
monitored for general minerals on an Annual basis.
In addition to the PHS/EHD request, the San Joaquin County Community Development
Department of Development Services Division (CDD) has requested that three shallow wells be
installed to monitor potential perched water and/or seepage between the Delta Mendota Canal
and a proposed settling basin and in the vicinity of the California Aqueduct near the southwest
corner of the subject site. Quarterly groundwater-level monitoring of these three wells and
annual reporting has been requested. The following scope of service address these items.
PROPOSED SERVICES
Task E01 -Permitting and Pre-Field Activities
Based on the verbal approval of the client, this scope of work(less the cost estimate and contract)
will be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department Environmental
Health Division (PHS/EHD) and CDD for approval. Kleinfelder will obtain boring/monitoring
well permits from the PHS/EHD. The PHS/EHD must approve the proposed scope of work and
' the boring permits prior to any exploratory borings greater than 18 inches in depth.
Additionally, PHS/EHD will charge DSS an initial 3-hour minimum and any additional oversight
charges above the permit fees to be submitted by Kleinfelder. These fees will be billed directly
to DSS by the PHS/EHD. Kleinfelder will forward the appropriate "billing and compliance
acknowledgement forms" to DSS for signature. Signed originals of the forms and the initial 3-
hour oversight fees must be submitted to PHS/EHD as part of the permit process.
The drilling subcontractor will be responsible to contact Underground Service Alert 48 hours
prior to conducting fieldwork to notify local utilities of our proposed subsurface assessment.
Task E02—Monitoring Well Installation
Three (3) monitoring wells will be installed at the DSS Company Tracy facility located west of
Koster Road, between the California Aqueduct and the Delta Mendota Canal, in Tracy,
California (Plate 1). Two wells will be installed between the Delta Mendota Canal and the
settling basin located near the eastern boundary of the site in the vicinity of a proposed gravel pit.
The third well -Will be installed near the southwestern Rortion of the site just northeast of the
California _Aoue uct. Based upon approximate elevations of the Delta Mendota Canal and
California Aqueduct invert reported by DSS, the three shallow monitoring wells will be installed
to total depths of approximately 35 feet below ground surface (bgs).
