KLEINFELDER
F No sampling spigots were available on the pump heads of the three deep wells, therefore
' groundwater samples were obtained from the nearest available discharge points at each well.
Well DW-1 is a DSS plant supply well that reportedly pumps almost continuously therefore
purging of this well was not necessary. The groundwater sample from this well was collected
from a water pipe used to fill trucks located approximately 20 feet from the well head. The
groundwater sample from agricultural well DW-3 was collected from a discharge irrigation
standpipe also located approximately 20 feet from the well head. Because of a high rate of
discharge for these two wells the groundwater sample had to be collected in a relatively large
container. A pre-cleaned 5-gallon plastic bucket was used for this purpose. The groundwater
collected from these two wells (DW-1 and DW-3) were then decanted into appropriate sample
containers from the 5-gallon bucket. Approximately 100 gallons of water was purged prior to
collection of a groundwater sample from DW-3. Approximately 30 gallons were purged from
DW-2B prior to collecting groundwater samples directly from a discharge pipe located about 6
feet from the well head. Groundwater sampling parameters, pH, specific conductivity and
temperature were taken prior to collecting groundwater samples (for details see Appendix Q.
k Purge water from these three deep wells were not contained.
i 4.4 SAMPLE HANDLING
i
After collection, the groundwater samples were labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody form, and
! immediately stored in an iced cooler. The samples were transported under chain-of-custody
control to Kleinfelder's office and then transported by courier in a sealed container to Sequoia
Analytical (Sequoia) of Sacramento, California for chemical analysis. Sequoia is certified by the
California Department of Health Services (DHS) to perform the requested analyses. The
laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody records are included in Appendix D.
}
20-2245-36.E0 1/2011 8279 Page 6 of 10
!, Copyright 2001, Kleinfelder, Inc.
