criteria referenced above will be used to formulate an ADF from the People of Christ Church:
60 Parishioners on Sunday,40 Parishioners on Wednesday= 100 people x 10 gals= 1,000+7= 143 gpd
® 53 parking spaces x 10 gals assigned to each space =530 gpd
Cr((T'he
3 toilets x 150 gallons per day=450 gpd
Average= 143 +530+450= — rom the three criteria referenced above)=375 gpd.
Theoretical maximum AD of 375 gpd r the proposed People of Christ Missionary Baptist Church.
ANTICIPATED WAST CHARACTERISTICS
The characteristics of the wastewater flow will be predominately blackwater, and smaller volumes
of gray water from sink water. Food preparation will occur in a new Kitchen/Meeting Building. It
is imperative that all food and food by-product wastes are handled as solid wastes and not be
disposed of into the septic system. This will prevent concentrated organic loading and prolong the
lifespan of the wastewater disposal system. The kitchen sink must not contain a garbage disposal
and oils and grease must not be poured down the sink drain. All fixtures (faucets, toilets, urinals)
must be of the lowest flows available. Faucets should be spring-loaded. A water softener must not
be installed on the domestic water supply line since the sodium liberated could deflocculate the
clays and collapse the soil structure.
Additional wastewater constituents may consist of coffee, juices or other similar type liquids to the
system. It is also imperative that no industrial or commercial chemicals, solvents, excessive
cleaners, etc. are introduced into the septic system, as well as other items such as any paper products
other than toilet paper, cloth, plastic, etc.
Total Soluble Solids (TSS) originating from organics can create and enhance biomat formation
between the native soil and effluent interface, thus restricting infiltration. The biomat, also referred
to as a`clogging mat,"is a biological, slimy substance which forms on the soil-effluent interface
over time. This mat is composed mostly of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and bacterial products
consisting of polyuronides and polysaccharides. The biomat does have one beneficial property of
removing approximately 10%of the nitrogen from the effluent. This figure has been used in the
nitrate loading calculations.
Total Nitrogen is the summation of ammonia-nitrogen(NH4) and organic nitrogen(proteins, amino
acids, enzymes). Since the septic tank is predominately anaerobic, nitrogen cannot exist in its
oxidized state as nitrate for any length of time in the septic effluent, and if it does, it is quickly
reduced to NO or NO,. If nitrate existed in the tank effluent, this would also be added to
ammonium and organic nitrogen to arrive at Total Nitrogen.
NLS§3,3\ To quantify the anticipated nitrogen concentration for use in the nitrate loading
calculations for the People of Christ Church project, effluent sample test results were obtained from
three- ter Churches in San Joaquin County. These analytical test results were averaged to provide
the concentrations found in Column 2, in Table 6 below.
12
Chesney Consulting
