'Mr.Brian Rogers
December 2,2002
Page 4
Seepage Pits:
A 42-inch diameter seepage pit should be attached to the end of each of the three(3)
leach lines. Based on our experience with this project and other projects in the area, we believe
that the absorption capacity of the seepage pits will be minimal. The exact absorption rate of
each seepage pit can be determined by performing additional percolation tests. Since the scope
of work does not allow for these additional tests, the septic system was designed for 100% flow
into shallow leach lines (0%into seepage pits).
The seepage pits are an important part of the system because not only will they provide
some(limited) absorption capacity, they also provide system storativity during high peak usage.
We calculate that one 42-inch diameter by 25-foot deep pit will store 594 gallons assuming a
porosity of 33%of the washed gravel rock placed inside the pit. A total of three(3)42-inch
diameter pits will provide 1,781 gallons of storativity.
Septic Tank:
The minimum septic tank size is presented in the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division's Sewage Standards (1996),page 12. According to the
requirements, a 1,200 gallon tank is acceptable. We recommend utilizing a Zabel type filter to
reduce possibility of any solids flowing into the disposal field.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
Based on the analysis, a septic system containing a 1,200 gallon tank with three(3) leach
lines, each 95-feet in length is acceptable. One(1) 48-inch diameter by 25-foot deep seepage pit
should be attached to end of each leach line. Our office understands that this design size will
meet the requirements of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department for Parcel No. 4
which has required three(3) leach lines of 95-feet each with a 42-inch by 25-foot deep seepage
pit attached to the end of each leach line. This design size is acceptable and exceeds our
calculated design size. The calculation and system drawings are attached to this letter.
The proposed septic system should be permitted and installed according to current San
Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division standards where
applicable.
OERSO
1
2
SSOL
