Mr. Gary McEnemey L
August 12,2002
Page 2
Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division(SJC PHS-EHD). No deep
percolation tests were performed.
Percolation Test Summary
Standard San Joaquin County Percolation Test Method Utilized
Wsite)
ft) Date Tested Percolation(Rate)
5-7-02 no percolation
5-7-02 250 min/in
N2,
8-1-02,additional test 222 min/in
8-1-02,additional test 125 min/in
3,(proposed site) 3.0 8-1-02, additional test 250 min/m'
Interpretation of the percolation rates measured at the proposed home site indicates that the
shallow soil zone has limited percolation potential. The deep percolation poteniial at the proposed leach
field site was not tested but is probably limited based on deep drilling experience with this project.
Therefore, the system will be designed on a shallow percolation rate of 250 min/inch. The proposed
engineered septic system design will be sized to dispose of the effluent entirely into shallow leach lines.
Seepage pits should be used and will add some absorption capacity and overflow protection for periods
of high use.
The conceptual septic system will be leach lines and seepage pits very similar to a typical San
Joaquin County septic system. A 100%replacement area is required and should be located adjacent to
the proposed septic system disposal if possible. The location of the 100% replacement area should be
designated by the property buyer.
The leach field area and 100%replacement area are to remain unbuilt(structure), unpaved, and
cannot be used for any vehicle parking or animal correl. Landscaping consisting of grass, flowers,or any
non"woody"plants is encouraged for the leach field area. Trees can be planted next to the leach field
with a set-back of 20 feet from the closest point of the leach trench or seepage pit.
H. Design Calculations
Shallow Leach Lines:
Disposal of effluent will be in shallow leach lines. A sewage loading equation was obtained
from the Manual of Septic Tank Practice(1967)was used to determine the sewage loading rate. On Page
47,Figure 19 of the Manual of Septic Tank Practice, the relationship between the percolation rate
(minutes per inch) and the allowable rate of sewage application(gallons per day per square foot) is
O,J4
