Mr. Gary McEnemey ..i
August 12,2002
Page 4
Septic Tank:
The calculated tank capacity calculation is described in the SJC PHS-EHD's Sewage Standards
(1996). According to the Sewage Standards, a four bedroom residence should utilize a 1,600 gallon
septic tank. We believe that due to the slow percolation rate of the soil, capacity should be increased to a
2,000 gallon tank. The larger tank size will allow additional time for settlement and treatment of
suspended solids. A filter should be placed in the tank to block any solids from entering the leach field.
Conclusions and Recommendations:
Based on the percolation tests and the assumptions stated, we recommend that the septic system
be composed of one(1)2,000 gallon septic tank and a total of 395 feet of leach line or 4 lines of 100 feet
each. Each of the four(4)leach lines should utilize a 42-inch diameter by 25-foot deep seepage pit. The
system is designed to absorb the average daily flow of 375 gallons entirely within the leach lines. rhe
septic system factor of safety exists solely through the use of seepage pits. The seepage pits will provide
limited absorption capacity and storage capacity. The calculations, percolation test field sheets, permits,
and system drawings are attached to this letter.
The proposed septic system should be permitted and installed according to current San Joaquin
County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division standards where applicable.
Our professional services were performed, our findings obtained, and our recommendations
proposed in accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices.
