November 3, 2005 <br /> NOA Project Number: E05123A <br /> 5.4 Discussion of Soil Lithology <br /> A visual inspection of the shallow soils from on-site drilling indicates little potential for percolation <br /> because of the clayey nature of the soils. A percolation test is the best method to determine the <br /> suitability of the soils for a septic disposal area. Please see the next section for percolation test <br /> results. Generally speaking, sandy soils have much greater potential for percolation than fine- <br /> grained or cemented soils. <br /> 4_r <br /> 6.0 PERCOLATION TEST INFORMATION <br /> 6.1 Percolation Test Locations <br /> A site ma indicating the location of the percolation test holes is included as Plate 1 in the appendix <br /> p g <br /> of this report. The location of these holes was indicated by Siegfried Engineering to be the proposed <br /> F1, septic area of the Site <br /> t <br /> 1 <br /> 6.2 Number of Percolation Tests <br /> _.� <br /> One shallow and one deep percolation test were conducted at the location indicated by Siegfried <br /> F, Engineering to be the proposed septic area of the Site. <br /> 6.3 Boring Preparation and Presaturation <br /> POne shallow and one deep soil boring were advanced on the Site with a truck mounted deep rock <br /> augur rig on September 28, 2005, <br /> F1A 1.5-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom was used to measure the drop of <br /> water in the percolation test boring. Approximately 2 inches of"pea gravel' were placed in the <br /> bottom of the open soil boring, then the PVC pipe was installed on top of the gravel. "Pea Gravel" <br /> Fjwas then used to backfill in the annular space. <br /> Presatutation of the percolation test holes occurred on September 28, 2005. The depth of water <br /> used to pre-soak was 12 inches above the bottom of the borings. <br /> ; s <br /> 6.4 Condition of Borings After Presaturation <br /> - After the 24-hour soak period, the presaturated holes were found to be intact on September 29, <br /> 2005. Both of the percolation test holes were found to be dry on the day of testing. <br /> 6.5 Percolation Test Procedure <br /> The percolation tests were conducted for the borings on September 29, 2005 in accordance with the <br /> 8 <br /> i ! 1 <br />
