✓
FLOYD DUE PROPERTY
PAGE NO. 3
VI . SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Two test holes were excavated to a depth 10 feet in the
areas of the proposed home sites in order to determine the soil
profile in the general area. For approximate location of the
test holes (PT) see the Tentative Parcel Map in the Appendix.
The soil profile test holes were logged by an engineer and a
description of the soils encountered in each hole is contained in
the Appendix. The surface soils consisted of a silty fine to
medium sand. Slightly cemented material was encountered at a
depth of 2 . 5 and 4. 0 feet. This was underlain by a silty sandy
that continued to the maximum depth explored. For a more
detailed description of the soils encountered see the log of test
pits.
Shallow percolation tests were performed in the surface
silty sand stratum at each of the test hole locations. The
surface test failed at the PT-1 location because the cemented
stratum or "hard pan" was closer to the surface. Consequently a
deep pit test was performed in the silty sand stratum that
underlaid the cemented material. For the shallow percolation
tests a 8 inch diameter by 36 inch deep test hole was excavated.
The deep pit test was performed in a 4 inch diameter by 8 .0 foot
deep test hole. Two inches of gravel was placed in the bottom of
each hole. A 3 inch diameter perforated pipe was placed in the
shallow holes and 2 inch diameter pipe in the deep hole. The
pipes were backfilled with gravel. Each of the tests holes was
filled with water 24 hours prior to running the tests. The last
half hour of the tests readings were witnessed by a county health
official and the test data obtained is enclosed in the appendix.
The percolation rates have been adjusted to account for the
gravel and pipe backfill. Calculations for adjustments are on
the test data sheets.
A summary of the test results is presented next:
Diameter of Depth of
Test No. Hole (in. )- Hole (in. ) Percolation Rate (min/in)
PT-1a 8 36 293, failed
PT-1b 4 96 11
PT-2 8 36 18
Even though the shallow percolation test passed at PT-2, due
to the presence of the "hard pan", it is recommended that dry
wells be used in conjunction with shallow leach lines at both
locations.
06& -
%
