State law requires <br /> land uses within airport areas of influence to conform with the Airport Land <br /> Use Plan. For proposals within Sharpe Airport's area of influence, ALUC plays <br /> an advisory role only. <br /> Approximately half of the proposed transfer station site is located within the <br /> Horizontal Surface Area and the other half in the Conical Surface Area of <br /> Sharpe Airport. The site is approximately 1.5 miles from the airport's <br /> runway. This type of industrial land use is allowed in these surface areas by <br /> the ALUP but there is one issue of concern. Proposed on site retention ponds <br /> might attract birds which may cause a hazard to flight operations. <br /> Mitigations are required by the ALUP that would ensure that a bird hazard does <br /> not occur.
