June 21, 2000
Job Number: LGW-173
Page 5
forming Mokelumne River alluvial fan. These deposits were mapped by Marchland and Atwater'
for the Lodi area(Plate 6). Alluvial fan deposits of the Modesto Formation are commonly
unconsolidated to semi-consolidated arkosic sediment, often heterogeneous in nature, and were
thought to have been deposited during the Pleistocene glacial outwash episodes in the western
Sierra Nevada Mountains. A small sand dune deposit, probably eolian(wind blown), was mapped
along the eastern property boundary by Marchland and Atwater.°
The surface and near surface soils located on the site are reported to be the Kingdom
Loam and the Tokay Fine Sandy Loam(Plate 7). The Kingdom fine sandy loam and the Jahant
loam soils are similar and described by the Soil Survey report to be generally very deep, well
drained, with a permeability that's moderately rapid in the Kingdom fine sandy loam and moderate
in the Tokay fine sandy loam.' The following is an excerpt of some selected engineering
properties for the following soils.
Table 2.
Selected Soil Properties of the Kingdom Loam and the Tokay Fine Sandy Loam s
Soil Name Depth (in) Unified Salinity Soil Septic tank
and Map Soil mmhos/ Reaction absorption
Symbol Classific- cm pH fields
ation
Kingdom 0-5: Fine sandy loam SM <2 5.6-7.3 Moderate:
loam,0 to 2 5-14:Fine sandy loam, sandy loam SM <2 6.1-7.3 wetness,
percent 14-28: Sandy loam, fine sandy loam.
