L 1
September 30, 2007
NOA Project Number: E07146A
J4.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
)4.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofDomestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
proposed development for the nitrate loading analysis and should not be used for septic system
design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of septic systems include a peak use factor,
whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term averages.
The wine tasting room is proposed to ha two employees per ay and will serve an ';a
of ie)
customers per day. We understand that it is p ed to be ope pproximately 5 hours ,
days per week.
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
V uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wastewater Diiposal Standards
(2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). The references indicate that 13 gallons
for each employee is typical for an office worker. (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). The average
waste water flow for a customer in a wine tasting room is estimated to be close or below what the
average wastewater flow would be for a customer in a cocktail lounge, which is approximately 15
* gallons per person.
' The following table presents the septic waste water uses associated with the site. The rates
presented from the references provide general guidance but do not always reflect a match in usage.
Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to select a reasonable
flow rate estimate. The flow rates selected for maximum uses associated with this project are
presented in the following table.
Typical Quantityof Effluent
Total Average Quantity Average Daily Flow
Category People per per Person Per Parcel
Day
2 13 gal/day/employee (2 employees* 13 gpd) = 26 gpd* 5/7= 18.6 gpd
Commercial /
10 15 gal/day/customer (10 customers * 15 gpd)—__150 gpd* 5/7 = 107.1 gpd VVV
F)
Total Average Daily Flow 126 averse gallons per da
Note –gpd is gallons per day;5/7 is a conversion-for the 5-day work we
FIFor the subject property, the total daily waste water quantity is 176 gallons per day. A five-sevenths
conversion was used to account for a five day work week.
