P
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
January 8, 2001 O (
Dave Thomas, Maintenance Supervisor
Unified Grocers, Incorporated
1990 North Piccoli Road
Stockton, California 95215
This letter is to follow up the phone conversation of December 29, 2000, between you
and Raymond Borges, Lead Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist of San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Division(EHD). The EHD is the regulatory
agency that inspects and permits the installation of onsite sewage disposal systems under
the authority of San Joaquin County Ordinance Code, Chapter 9-1110 and the California
Regional Water Quality Control Board.
On December 29, 2000, the EHD issued a Special Permit for the repair of the onsite
sewage disposal system at the above referenced address. The use of special permits is
provided for in the San Joaquin County Ordinance Code in cases where standard
installation(s) are not available. This repair was deemed special because the repair took
place over the existing system and was not able to meet the standards. The EHD is
concerned that this repair may be the last repair in this designated unobstructed area.
Future repairs to this system may require the removal of asphalt in order to provide an
area that is not driven on or vehicles parked on.
The EHD makes the following recommendations to improve the maintenance and
operation of this facility's onsite sewage disposal system:
(1) Install low flow toilet facilities and urinals where appropriate
(2) Install hot and cold water shut off valve assemblies at all hand wash sink(s)
(3) Utilize the recently installed flow diversion valves to allow part of the system to
dry out while utilizing the other portion of the system (example = 6 months each)
(4) Conduct routine pumping of sludge material from septic tanks (6 month intervals
or less)
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
