STATE OF CAUFC,9NIA-Environmental Protecti. _agency PETE WILSON, Governor
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD _
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3o98
ti*•.
PHONE: (91 6) 255-3000
FAX: (916) 255-015
8 January 1993
Mr. David McRoy
Pacifex French Camp Warehouse
P.O. Box 1197
French Camp, CA 95231
STORNWATER POND: ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Enclosed for your information are the analytical results from water sample
collected from the Pacifex stormwater pond on 16 December 1992. The sample
was analyzed for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. The results show a total
nitrogen content of 1070 mg/1 (parts per million) . To put this value in
context, the Maximum Contaminant Level for nitrogen in drinking water is 10
mg/1 . While we realize that 1070 mg/l nitrogen in a pond does not mean that
there is 1070 mg/l nitrogen in the groundwater below the pond, we do feel that
the results are high enough to cause concern.
Therefore, we would like to meet with you before the end of January to discuss
various approaches to either reducing the nitrogen content of the stormwater
or lining the pond to prevent movement of nitrogen into groundwater. We will
also be discussing methods of removing the stormwater currently in the pond.
Please determine who you would like to attend this meeting, and then call me
to set up the date and time. I can be reached at (916) 255-3104.
1 ` vl-
WENDY WYELS
Ag Regulatory Unit
cc: Mr. Bill McRoy, Ripon
Mr. Richard Larrouy, San Joaquin County Community Development
Department, Stockton
