• July 1971 permit for new residential septic system. The permit indicates a 1,200-
gallon tank and two 80-foot leach lines (12681 S. Highway 99).
These permits are included in Appendix 4 of this report.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that
exist within approximately four square miles surrounding the property. Air photo
imagery from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed
to have one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 24 septic
systems per square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
The general area consists of orchards, vineyards, and agricultural land, with rural
residences along the roadways. A cemetery, golf course, and RV park are located to
the north of the Site.
Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
Based on a recent review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department for nearby properties, septic systems in the area
appear to utilize leach lines. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 5 of this
report.
• Expected On-Site Maximum Septic Tank Usage
Maximum expected usage on the Site would be from the existing winery, tasting room,
and residences, as well as additional future winery employees. No increase in tasting
room customers is anticipated. Potential second dwelling units on the residential
parcels, should they be desired, would also require septic systems. Septic system
design should be based on the On-Site Wastewater Disposal Standards (2003) or other
engineering recommendations.
Ground Water Information
Depth and Gradient
Live Oak reviewed ground water elevation information available from the San Joaquin
County Flood Control and Water Conservation District to determine the ground water
levels near the Site. Data from fall of 2014 and spring of 2015 were the most recent
available from this source. According to an analysis of these maps (Plates 9 and 10),
ground water elevation is approximately 1 foot above to 8 feet below mean sea level;
ground water flows toward the north or northeast at a rate of approximately 4 to 7 feet
per mile in the vicinity of the Site.
• LOGE 1714 Page 6
