ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
The following additional information is required to complete the report of waste discharge:
1. Provide descriptions of the types of trailers that are cleaned, including their contents, or residual
contents.
2. Provide a list of any sanitizers, disinfectants, surfactants, or other chemicals used in the cleaning
process. Attach material safety data sheets for all chemicals used.
3. Provide all analytical data collected while characterizing wastewater at the site. The data
previously submitted, while helpful, is apparently incomplete based on references to petroleum
hydrocarbons in your 26 October 1999 letter. Also include any data collected using hand held
instruments, such as the total dissolved solids(TDS) data we discussed during the site inspection.
Information on the instrument used and a brief discussion of calibration procedures and
frequency is also required.
4. Provide any groundwater quality data available from the on-site domestic well. Also include
information on the screened interval(s) of the well.
5. The hydraulic capacity of the stormwater pond must be sufficient to accommodate the
wastewater inflow, surface water inflow, and rainfall. A minimum two feet of freeboard in the
pond will be required. Provide an analysis of the hydraulic capacity of the stormwater pond.
6. The depth to first groundwater and the quality of the groundwater must be characterized.
Installation and sampling of the wells shall be performed consistent with the attached guidance
document, `Items to be Included in a Monitoring Well Installation Workplan and a Monitoring
Well Installation Report of Results." At a minimum, groundwater samples shall be chemically
analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbons, general mineral analysis, volatile organic compounds
(including fuel oxygenates), and chemicals used in the truck wash process identified in Item No.
2 above.
7. Additional characterization of the wastewater quality. The samples shall be collected at the end
of the wastewater generation cycle, so as to be representative of the proposed wastewater
discharge. As we discussed on 2 December 1999,Rapid Wash has monitored wastewater quality
with hand held meters to estimate wastewater parameters. It is recommended that any
instruments used to provide data as requested in Item No. 3, be employed at the time of sample
collection to verify the instrument accuracy. The wastewater shall be sampled for the following
parameters;
o General Minerals
o Total Settleable Solids
o BODS
o pH
o Specific Conductivity
o Any chemicals identified in Item No. 2 above
C'IPr wF cMhc Aa*_Wa V Nm I222",E (Cont.)
