M KLEINFELDER
recorded and used to calculate the percolation rate in minutes per inch. The estimated
percolation rates for each test are summarized below. A copy of our field percolation test (
results signed by a representative from SJCEHD is attached (Plate 15). Additional details
6- regarding each test can be found on the attached percolation test sheet.
Test Number Performed Depth (feet) Percolation Rate (min./inch)
P-1 3.0 0
21.8 5
7. NITRATE LOADING CALCULATIONS
The following summarizes our nitrate loading calculations for the proposed leach field using
i the Hantzsche mass balance equation (source: Predicting Groundwater Nitrate-Nitrogen
Impacts, Hantzsche and Finnemore (1992)). The Hantzsche mass balance equation and an
explanation for each factor or value used in the equation are presented below. The selection of
each factor was based on previous studies performed by our firm, the San Joaquin County
Sewage Standards, communications with Mr. Mike Huggins with SJCEHD, information
provided in a report dated March 19, 1997 prepared by the Questa Engineering Corporation and
authored by Mr. Hantzsche for a development in the Stockton area, a technical memorandum
6" titled "Hydrologic and Soil Investigation for the Chico Urban Area" authored by Dames and
Moore in April 1996, and a technical paper authored by Hantzsche and Finnemore and
presented in the July-August 1992 Ground Water journal titled "Predicting Ground-Water
6' Nitrate-Nitrogen Impacts."
Ne =AW& (1-D) +(Nb) R
" AW+R
Where:
..
