San Joaquin Valley
Unified Air Pollution Control District
October 8, 1993
Richard Larrouy
Assistant Planner r
San Joaquin County fir' i 13 1993
Community Development Department
1810 East Hazelton Avenue L;()MMUwu r u[rwr `
Stockton, CA 95205 PLANNING DIVISION
Dear Mr. Larrouy:
Subject: Hazardous Air Emissions Survey - Stockton Baptist Church, Private K-12
School - Application Number: SA-93-38
The San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District has completed a survey
of the area around the proposed school(s) site in accordance with section 21151 .8
of the Public Resources Code, and offers the following comments for your
consideration:
There are no permitted sources of hazardous or potentially hazardous air emissions
within one-fourth mile of the outer boundary of the proposed school site(s). There is
a gasoline station (ARCO) approximately one-half mile north of the proposed site.
The school site is surrounded by agriculture fields to the north, east, and south.
These fields appear to be fallow according to SJVUAPCD staff. Across State
Highway 99, to the west, is a walnut orchard. The owner of this orchard holds
agricultural burn permits with the District. When agricultural burning occurs it could
create a potential for smoke drifting across the freeway impacting the school children
and its employees.
In addition, due to the agricultural nature of the adjacent land, there may be the
potential for exposure of students and employees to hazardous or acutely hazardous
materials from the application agricultural chemicals. Agricultural chemicals may also
be stored, handled, and mixed within one-fourth mile of either proposed school site.
If you have any questions please call me at (209) 545-7000.
Sincerely, J
David J.
