n
This chart illustrates that evapotranspiration far exeeeds.precipitation, even when using higher
rainfall data that exceeds normal rainfall data by 56%. Only in the months of January, February,
November and December would deep percolation potentially occur. ,This data illustrates a relatively
high potential for there to be significant evapotranspiration(or bare, soil surface evaporation) from a
l
wastewater disposal system design that may take advantage of evapotranspiration during favorable _
months of the year.
III. NITRATE LOADING STUDY FINDINGS
A. WASTEWATER FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
Wastewater Flow Volume Projections
To determine nitrate-nitrogen loading from any project;wastewater flow volumes must be
determined as accurately as possible. Typically, loading projections are based on the maximum
anticipated wastewater flows. These numbers must lie.defined on the Application for a Use Permit.
As noted on this Application in Appendix E, 20 worshipers and one employee (21 people) are
expected every day except Friday. On Fridays, 294 Worshipers and one employee_ are expected
(295 people). -
w It is my understanding there will be no food preparation in the'future Mosque and therefore no
kitchen. The San Joaquin County Onsite Wastewater Disposal Standards.assigns 5 gal per person
when there is no kitchen in a House of Worship.
Therefore, considering the total number of people on a weekly basis, we have:
21 people x 5 galslperson x 6 d/week=.630 gals
295 people x 5 gals/person x 1 d/week==1,475 gals
t Total wastewater flow per week= 2;105
Total wastewater flow per year= 2,105.x 52 weeks/yr= 1-09,460.gals/yr
Wastewater Characteristics
No concentrated organic loading should exist because there will be,no kitchen and a large
CM percentage of the wastewater flows will be wash water. This graywarer.will be from the washing of
hands, feet and face before prayer,_ and will have very low' nitrogen concentrations. Blackwater will
originate from toilets. Additional wastewater constituentsmay.consist of other liquids to the
system. No industrial or commercial chemicals, solvents, etc. should be introduced into the
'wastewater treatment system.
From the anticipated characteristics described above, the nitrogen emanating from the project
should beat a much lower concentration than what would normally be found in atypical domestic
or household system, primarily due to the majority of the wastewater originating from the washing
, before prayer. This will create a dilution effect: The scientific literature.cites nitrogen
' concentrations in septic effluent typically ranging from 17 mg NIL for basins; sinks, etc. to 140 mg
NIL for toilet-wastes,
Chesney Consulting'
