The soil encountered to a depth of 3 feet on the site was
composed of sand with some silt and is similar to the descriptions of the shallow soil in the San
Joaquin Soil Survey. Six shallow percolation tests were completed within the 3-foot deep boring
to measure the percolation rate of the soil. Plate 1 identifies the location of the soil borings and
percolation tests.
The percolation test borings were drilled utilizing a 4-inch hand auger drill. The casing used for
the percolation test was 1-1/2-inch diameter PVC pipe with an open end on the top and bottom.
Perforations were made on approximately the last 6 inches of the casing. One (1) inch of"pea
gravel"was placed in the bottom of the hole, the casing was installed, and two (2) feet of"pea
gravel'was backfilled in the annular space. The percolation test borings were pre-soaked on
June 12,2003, 24-hours prior to the test.
Six one (1) hour percolation tests were conducted on June 13, 2003, one on each of the six new
parcels. The percolation tests were conducted in accordance with the requirements of EHD. The
last ten minutes of each percolation test was observed by Linda Turkatte, Environmental Health
Specialist of the EHD. The following table presents a summary of the percolation tests.
_ pE RSOt
Z
O
ISSO♦
